I can’t begin to do this appropriate justice right now because I am exhausted but I have been vibrating all night I am so excited! Today I received vacation approval at work and spent 5 hours tonight booking all the flights for my big 30th Birthday vacation!
In the past I have always gone away on my birthdays and each year I increase the level of difficulty in the vacation to push my experiences and confidence in my abilities. Last year because I had other holidays I stayed home for my 29th birthday for the first time in years and commemorated it by having 9 two hour parties.
This year the gimmick and personal challenge was 30 days in Europe spread over 10 cities and 10 countries. Due to logistics it is 29 days plus a week in Montreal before I head to Europe. I am also hitting more than 10 countries because some flights layover in other countries but I don’t actually spend the night.
The level of difficulty has increased this year in many ways. Here are some examples:
- There are 9 different main languages involved
- I am flying between all countries, that is a lot of planes to catch and lots of airports
- I plan to ONLY pack a carry-on bag with minimal luggage
- There are 7 new countries that I have not visited in the past
- This will be the longest I have ever been away from home
Disclaimer: I do not intend to conquer these countries in 3 days, it is my intention to merely visit their cities as a European sampler and enjoy myself to the fullest.
Here is my itinerary:

I am totally jealous, I wish I could come with you. I loved Paris, just walking the streets, my friends and I walked from the Arc de Triomphe to the Sacre Coeur at the Montmarte, it took like 5 hours but it was one of the most fantastic days. Munich is also one of my favourite cities, the Hoffbrau house has amazing food and beer. Visiting Dachau was also a very sobering experience for me.
