I’ll take your morning, but not your paper

Morning everyone! So I figured it was time for another polling question.

You know those people that stand on the street offering up their free newspaper? Depending on your city it will be called “24” or “Metro” or something similar. Usually about a 10 page paper written in a short spunky type of format.

I am curious do you ever take one? Do you pick them up from the free boxes?

I don’t for three reasons:

  • I don’t read or listen to the news. I rely on my social interactions to filter out the big important world affecting items.
  • The smell of newsprint drives my nose insane and gives me headaches
  • I don’t like how newsprint feels on my hands

I do however appreciate the people standing on the corners.

There is a lady at my bus stop downtown every morning that shouts out “GOOD MORNING” to everyone. She has a big smile, even when she is uber bundled up because of the cold. I love experiencing her joy each morning.

There was also a man in central downtown that used to provide hilarious claims for his paper such as “People who read Metro are sexier! Would you like a Metro?” or “Come on! You know you want to!” or “OMG you will never believe what is inside this copy of Metro!”. I love experiencing his creativity.

Answer my poll! You know you want to! People who answer polls and comment on blogs are sexier! OMG you won’t believe the results of this poll!

Do you take or read a free morning paper?

  • I’ll grab them once in a while… I get most of my news online (especially through the blogs) but Metro is a good way to quickly get caught up on major headlines.

I used to take one everyday ’cause I felt bad that everyone just walked by the lady on the corner by my building but I found I didn’t have time to read it and it was just going in the recycle. Now I only take one when there is something I want to know.

I think I know which guy you are talking about with the funny comments, is he the one on the corner by Starbucks?

Last time I saw him he was standing on the corner next to the Second Cup that is attached to the city library just across from Sir Winston Churchill square. But I haven’t seen him in awhile.

I feel sexier already! I like taking them from the nice old guy standing by the Union Bank in. He’s super nice and not all in my face.

I used to read them religiously until I started going back to school. Now i read far too much to want to even think of it any time I’m not obligated to read.
