“Flash” me

Today was full of unexpected news! The most surprising was probably that Chely Wright came out via People Magazine… OK so maybe that isn’t big news at all. What the big news really was is that Edmonton has a new gay bar opening this weekend named “Flash”!

The Grand Opening is May 7 & 8 but tonight I was invited to the soft launch word of mouth / friends and family night. I was glad to have the opportunity to check out the bar before hand because I don’t do well on opening nights of movies let alone bars LOL.

Turns out the manager is my friend Simon Denault, cool guy and was my long time hairdresser until my friend Kori started cutting and needed models for his classes. It was good to see Simon and all the other familiar faces out on a Thursday night.

My review of the bar is pretty good, the music was very harsh when I first arrived but they soon got that under control and moved away from the warehouse electronic techno to a bit more mainstream and the dance floor picked up.

The bars are beautiful stone work with beautiful color changing lights that light up the liquor. The main bar is a giant wall bar. It has big booths across the back that are very comfy with man sized tables. There are also many tables with high bar chairs at them. The dance floor is modest and I can see it being very cozy. The bar is layout is a split level with the top section looking down to the dance floor on the lower section. Reminded me of 5ive I think it was called in Toronto.
