Do you trust your bottle depot? Going to the bottle depot has never been a favorite activity for me but I do it as soon as I can’t open my back shed door without being attacked by bottles.
I enjoy the fact that I do take my empties in, and I usually get a seemingly appropriate amount of money each time I go. One car trunk full usually brings in $15. However as they stand there chucking bottles and cans in all sorts of different directions with very little method to their madness I can’t help but question their counting skills. I try to pretend that I am counting too and give the “I’m paying attention to you” look… but who knows if the amount they give me is what I deserve.
Have you ever felt this way? Better yet, have you ever pre-calculated your total and compared it to theirs? Even if you did what are you going to do after they threw all your bottles in all the different bins? Demand a recount? I think not…
Today I got $15.65 and I was pleased. It was more than anyone else would give me for my bottles. *shrug*
I can usually tell that they are counting too but when I was in high school I knew someone that worked at a bottle depot. He would subtract 5 bottles from all the totals and then give himself a cash out at the end of the night to buy beer with. I figure if they are taking off a few for themselves in a way they are kind-of earning it by doing the most disgusting job in the world. I think it’s grosser than garbage man and close to the guy that vacuums outhouses. It’s sick the old beer/pop and the fact that people drank out of it…yuk!

Those are some damn good points! Suddenly I really don’t care if my $15.65 was supposed to be $16.65 🙂

I always give them a big tip because as far as I can tell they do more work than some of the waiters I have had. The bottle depot by my house is really good and they are very honest, I always get about the same amount for my five bags. Once I went to a different one because I needed to go on a Sunday and I got half of the amount I usually got. I have never gone there again.
