Athens Date Night

My last night in Athens was just perfect! I had a great day at the beach, arrived back at the local train station and found Celine, a girl I had been bumping into on my travels ever since Rome.

She told me her plans for the evening to get a bite to eat at the Acropolis and then catch an English movie with Greek subtitles in an open air theatre. Sounded exactly what I was in the mood for so I showered in 30 seconds, changed from my bathing suit and headed out to explore Athens.

I call it date night because had it been on a first date it would have been magical. Not to say it wasn’t magical with Celine but you get the idea.

We headed out to the Acropolis first and took some cool pictures.

 

 

 

Then after much searching we found the PERFECT restaurant to eat at before our movie started. They had a great atmosphere with vegatation, music, singing, dancing, and terrific food! They made me a vegetarian dish of stuffed Tomato and stuffed Green Pepper complete with Red Wine, Bread, and Watermelon for desert.

Then after dinner we ran across the square to the open air theatre! What an amazing place! The movie was “The Soloist”. I had no interest in seeing the movie but the theatre was so cool! It was a proper theatre with tiered seating, popcorn, big screen without a roof basically. The view to our left was of the Acropolis lit up at night!

I would totally recommend visiting this theatre if you come to Athens. It is located right in the plaka and most people can point you slowly in the right direction if you ask for the “Movie theatre”. If you ask for “Open Air theatre” you will get all sorts of directions. Some people send you to the ruins of the ancient ampitheatre, others to the movies.

Then before bed we wandered off to take night time pictures of the temple of Zues.

Then it was off to bed to wake up at 4:00 am to head to Turkey!
