In my post Budafulpest I promised you a scary labyrinth blog so here it is. I love exploring caves so when I read about the underground cave system under Buda Castle I knew I had to make that a priority. If you are ever in Budapest I would say this is a MUST. Granted when I was in the labyrinth it was dead and no one else was really inside with me and that made it all the more special, tramatizing, and enjoyable LOL.
The Labyrinth isn’t just a fun thing to do, they also have it set up with a story, a learning experience complete with a moral to be learned. There is no access to outside light at all in the labyrinth and the only light source is strategically placed candles, lamps, and lanterns. Throughout the maze they also pipe in creepy or mystical music to help set the mood. Check out his first video that shows how dark it is, how confusing it is, and you can hear the music and the eery sounds.
There were a couple times I was lost or scared to walk forward so I cheated and took a picture with my camera to have the moment of flash. Here are some shots with flash so you can see what I was walking with. You can also see the moisture. It was constantly dripping in puddles randomly from the ceiling.
Part of the “Prehistoric” labyrinth
Sealed off passages, and metal doors that don’t open
As you look at the above pics, remember that you could only make out those items as shadows from the candles in the dark. The camera flash sometimes scared me more because it showed more than I even knew was there. There were some “fun” rooms that are light and jovial but turn kinda creepy like this video.
They even had a whole section called the “Courage Labyrinth” with NO LIGHT AT ALL! Just a chain that you had to hold on to. I almost didn’t go in. I was just going to tell everyone that I did. Then I heard a mom and her son talking about it so I felt like a big chicken and went back to brave the task. I think my heart stopped but I did it!
Horse butt in the wall?
Blood on the candle?
Drinkable? Fountain of Youth? My guess is no and maybe
Neon ropes like lazers with bells on them. You had to crawl through without ringing the bells. Even with the 20 lbs I lost, let’s just say the bells were a ringing!
These aren’t going to shut are they?
Hmmmm chains? Whipping room or hippie labyrinth?
Like I said this is a must, however it is quite the walk so bring good shoes and give yourself time to explore.
I don’t think I could have done that on my own, too scary for me (then again I can’t even watch a horror movie trailer without my eyes closed). That first video sounded like a heartbeat…yikes.
