Today was a wonderful and exciting day! I got two new CDs. I love them both very much.
First was Kylie Minogue’s new CD “Boombox” that I pre-ordered off of iTunes. I got a text message on my cell phone this morning letting me know it was ready for download so I made the very wise decision to miss my first bus to work so I could download the CD and transfer it to my iPod. The CD is a collection of Kylie’s best remixes since 2000. I was very excited when I heard this because if you scroll through my iPod you will see that my favorite songs are remixes 99% of the time. Here is the title track from the CD that I can’t seem to get enough of lately. Note: This isn’t the music video for this song, just a bunch of Kylie videos someone put together.
Then in the afternoon mail drop at work I received a Christmas present from my friend Lorrie. It was the CD of an artist I heard while visiting Calgary at her friend’s house. Though the music is so very on the outskirts of my taste I was really grooving and enjoying the music. Lorrie is really good at expanding my musical tastes and has turned me onto artist like The Waifs (We saw live in Portland), Shemekia Copeland (Saw live in Portland, and Calgary) and now Michael Franti & Spearhead. The CD is titled “Yell Fire” and is full of great music. It is the kinda music that my body loves to have on around me just filling up the space without invading my thoughts. It is very human music with a Jamaican feel. This CD is full of inspiring, and uplifting songs inspired by his trip to Iraq, Israel and Occupied Territories of Palestine. I haven’t yet landed on a favorite song but here is one that I have listened to a few times already and think it could be my fav.
If you are a big Barack Obama fan you might want to visit Michael Franti and Spearhead’s website and watch their video for “Obama Song”. It is a really positive, energetic song and if you like enough you can download the song for free.
My friend Rebecca and I saw Spearhead several summers ago. They’re OK for a jam band, which is not my taste. It was an outdoor show and most of the attendees looked like Deadheads and kids waiting for Phish to get back together.
