Flying Food

On my recent trip to Montreal I did something I have never done before. I flew with groceries…

Being vegetarian and on a calorie restricted diet, meal time with friends can sometimes get tricky. Lucia enjoys/gets nervous when I visit because we try some vegetarian dishes and expose her to some new foods. Since I was going to be away for two weeks and I hadn’t cleaned out my fridge I decided to bring most of my food with me. I brought beans, spices, banana hearts, kare kare sauce mix, a malanga, and specific pasta sauce I am in love with for making pita pizzas. I also brought two bottles of wine! I felt silly, especially with the malanga in my suitcase but it wasn’t going to be much of an issue because my flight was national so customs wasn’t involved. It all worked out really well and we had some great meals. Nice to cook with those little oddities or brands you aren’t sure you will find when you are away.

Not sure if it was the pressurization of the plane or baggage handling but the cans were the only altered items. I snapped this post flight picture of the “Hunt’s Thick & Rich Pasta Sauce – Spicy Red Pepper & Chillies” can that I love so much…
