Question #6: Would you rather… Live in a home without electricity OR a home without running water? – from the book Zobmondo!!

EatingLifeUp answer:

  • Having lived without electricity and without running water I definitely would choose no electricity. I love candles and find them very romantic. I also am very sensitive to electronic hum and can hear things like TVs on mute, old street lights, basically anything with lots of electricity running through it. It is a crazy sense of calm that pours over me when the power goes out. Hauling pails of water… less romantic!

Without running water… hands down. I’m already used to the set up because its like this at our farm and without electricity there is no power for the fridge, no power for the music / ipod dock… I don’t mind hauling water or using an outhouse so the choice seems easy for me :)

I definitely see where you are coming from but I lived with no running water for 3 years! 3 years of hauling water, heating water and using an outhouse can takes its toll on someone. The cabin has power but no running water and I agree in small doses for me now, totally doable.

I am so with you. I can handle no light, especially as no matter what the sun comes up everyday so at least it wouldn’t be perpetual darkness. Hauling water and heating it on a stove, maybe for a weekend at the lake but that is it for me. I guess I am just a spoiled brat.

Hmmmm OK you kinda caught me with the no internet part for a bit, I am on the fence now but still teetering toward no electricity.

I can say with absolutely no hesitation that I would choose no electricity. No electricity would be an inconvenience but no water would be the end of me. I have lived my whole life in the city and running water is one of those things that I just take for granted. I do not want to be without water ever.

No water for sure, electronic entertainment is a necessity for me. At least I could be entertained with no water, but I would be so bored without electricity.

No electricity for sure. I have been without both during huricanes and having no water is the worse!

Just coming back from Cuba I DEFINITELY stick by my choice of no electricity! No water is too much of a chore for me now.
