This is my tribute to one of my favorite things in Vancouver “The SKYTRAIN!”. Whenever I visit the city I end up riding the SkyTrain quite a bit mostly for commuting to work. It does have it’s quirks and it is affectionately named by locals “The loser cruiser” however it still rocks in my books!
Despite that it usually has crazy people on it and that it has issues running properly with snow fall it is still my favorite mode of transportation in the city. Also next year the extension to the international airport will be completed in time for the 2010 Winter Olympic games.
One thing that I think everyone should do is sit in the very front seat. The SkyTrain doesn’t have actual drivers (unless snow fall or other exceptions) so that means that you can sit right up front and get the sensation that you are driving the train. I took this video for you all on this last trip so you could get an idea of what it feels like. It will make you feel like a little kid again when you get that seat but who doesn’t need to feel like that every now and then.
PS: If you really want to try this you should go to Waterfront station and wait for one of the newer looking trains. This is the first stop so chances are no one is in that seat already. You might have to bowl down a kid or two in a race for the seat but hey, who lives there and can do it any day and who traveled to the city from afar? LOL 😉
