On my recent trip to Cuba my Uncle Liuan gave me two GIANT avocados from the tree in his back yard. I couldn’t believe that they were actually avocados when you compare them to what we get here in Canada. I wasn’t sure if Canadian customs would permit them into the country but my Uncle really wanted me to have them and asked me to try. So I declared them at the border and they simply inspected them, marveled at their size and let me through.
Can you believe the size of them? The one on the scale you can see is almost 1 KILO!?!
I am glad I read about them online because I was waiting for them to turn black but apparently this variety stays green when ready. It was SO YUMMY! I put it in a whole wheat pita shell with cheese and pasta sauce. Amazing sandwiches! I still have a massive bowl left in my fridge I hope to get through before it goes bad.
The most exciting thing is while reading online I learned how to grow an avocado tree from the pit. So I am hopeful this will work out. I will blog the progress on as it happens!
How did it taste?!? Looks delicious!

O-M-G is right. wow!
ps. If you keep the pit in with the flesh in the bowl it won’t turn brown

It was so good that I didn’t have to worry about it turning brown. I made myself two sandwiches last night, made one for my mom, and brought the rest of it for lunch today. This morning it was still bright green when I packed it for work. But good tip Lesley!
