Hahaha I just had a great flash back to German Level 1!
I went into a bakery in Vienna near my hostel and looked at all the amazing things they had to offer. I landed on this Massive, long, delicious looking sesame bun. However, I knew that it was stuffed with something and thought it would probably be meat. Because I am a vegetarian this would be a disappointment. Here is how the conversation unfolded…
Neil: Is that made with meat?
Confused baker who only spoke German: Only German
Neil: with meat? pointing at delicious bun…
Baker: Ahhhh Mit Kartoffel!
Neil thinking with a sad face: Damn, it has Kartoffel meat!
Baker seeing I am disappointed says again: Mit Kartoffel
Neil thinking: Wait! “Mit” sounds like “Meat” but it means “With”, and “Karfoffel” means “Potato” so that bun is WITH POTATO!!!!
Neil aloud: Ohhhhhhhhhh Mit Kartoffel, I will TAKE IT!
Baker all happy with smile: 2 Euro
Sorry I would have taken a picture Christal, but before I knew it I had eaten it and it was gone!
LOL.. I don’t blame you since it took some time to clear out no meat on potato. ^_*
