Elevator protocol

You know how it goes… there is a group of people waiting to get into the elevator. One person shoves their arm in, everyone piles in ladies first and the door closes. Then lets say the elevator stops on the 5th floor because one of the lady’s needs that floor, so now she has to fight past everyone because she got in first.

Other scenario… a bunch of couples get in the elevator, the girls get in first, then the guys. They all reach the ground floor and the girls get out first, then the guys do the “No, no, no after you” and “You first” crap. Finally everyone gets out and they all have to jockey around and bump into each other while trying to re-pair up.

Now a bunch of guys get in the elevator… some are wearing jeans, some are in suits. The suits let the jeans out first. Unless the suit is elderly then the suit gets to go first. If there is a fine balance of age and jeans, then all the guys get stuck in the elevator doorway because they all can’t fit.

Or how about the slow, the infirm, the out of shape, and the grumpy sloths… they surely get out of the elevator first, can’t decide what direction they are going, might have even got off on the wrong floor. Then the rest of the speedies have to fight past them to resume any sense of normal walking speed.

Would I want to get rid of these elevator protocols that are steeped in tradition? Never!

Do they make sense? NOT AT ALL!!!!!!

I enjoy the people who are waiting for the elevator, they stand right in front of the door as it opens and seem genuinely surprised that someone needs to get off and has to squeeze past them.
Just wait a couple steps back so people can get off… in the appropriate sequence listed above of course.

I thought this would be the appropriate time to share my elevator pet peeve. There is nothing that annoys me more than someone going up or down one floor, especially at the busiest times like right after a fire drill when we are all trying to get back up. Seriously how lazy can you get, take the bloody stairs!
