Behl! One of my new favorite Indian foods! This crazy concoction has so many ingredients and most I don’t even know what they are. It is sweet and savory. I can identify puffed rice, tomatoes, basil (I think), chutney, chilies (maybe) and lots of spices. No two bowls ever taste alike because the guys that make it dump spoonfuls of ingredients in a pot, mix it all around (giving it a wet/dry consistency) and hand you a bowl with a spoon. I find I usually order this at 5pm as my “breakfast”. A bit spicy for breakfast but YUM!!!! | Work Cafeteria, Pune, India |
Movember 8th
I have been a bit under the weather the past few days so I really have been either at work for 10-12 hour shifts or sleeping in the hotel. This means I am seriously lacking in “India” pictures but this upcoming weekend should rectify that. For now you get a picture update of my longest, natural color moustache. Tomorrow is Friday and a few of us are seeing Skyfall (The new James Bond) before work. It launched in India last weekend. I am not sure it has launched in North America yet since I haven’t seen posts on Facebook about it. I am very excited for it based on buzz in the office. Then the weekend promises shopping, exploring and trekking!
Movember 3rd
Why take 1 passport photo when you can take 8! LOL Today I had to get my photo taken in India so I could get a Pre-paid SIM card. Then another photo to upgrade from a SIM to a Micro SIM. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to launch my Movember 3.0 movement! This is my third year participating in Movember to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer. I was thinking of taking a year off from the stache but I accidentally started to grow it in Vancouver in early October and decided to keep going since so many people in India have them. This will be my longest growing season yet! Stay tuned to watch the progress. Interesting tidbit: For some people in India a Moustache is a sign you still have your parents. Postcard #20
Today was a very productive exploratory day! I ventured out into the neighbourhood to navigate the streets. I jumped through all the hoops to get a Pre-Paid Indian SIM card including getting passport photos taken. I also visited my first McDonalds! Amazing! Two kitchens, one Veg, one Non-Veg. Lots of Vegetarian options including the McSpicy Paneer! The only miss on the day was getting grazed by a motorcycle crossing the road. Totally fine, just shocking. I just looked the wrong way in a busy intersection. I will be more careful from now on. | Pune, India |

You can’t server liquor here after a certain hour, but our shift typically ends at 2:30am. So the other night we went to an “black-market/underground” establishment that appeared to be a den of drinking and gambling. I was ridiculously excited because I live for experiences like this! We had our own private bamboo room with mattresses and pillows and a short table. We were very full from supper so we just ordered beer. I had my very first taste of “Kingfisher” the local beer and it was reminiscent of Heineken. The beer came in 650ml bottles which makes you feel like you had one, when you really had two. The room was light by a very small blue light that gave the effect seen in the two photos above. Names of people and establishments were omitted from this post to protect those involved. 😉 | Underground, Pune, India |
